HRN 504: How Can We See With All This Light?
David and Gary review a Netflix series that has a whole lot of radio in it: "All the Light We Cannot See," based on a book by the same name. It’s set in WWII, in a coastal French town, and involves a clandestine shortwave broadcaster and the German radioman assigned to track her down. And of course there’s a love story.
Like most general media, they take a lot of shortcuts with the technology. We’re not upset… we’re amused. It’s fun to see how they handle radio in a series that is so dependent on it.
Then we use a demo from Helge LA6NCA to show you how it’s really done. We shortened Helge’s video from 16 minutes down to 6. Here’s a link to the original:

HRN 503 – Pavement Police
Gary K4AAQ (King of HAM) has a short video from a parade he helped with on Saturday. It was ham radio, and a bit more. David W0DHG is remote from a POTA operation with his WaveTalkers co-host Chris W6AH.

HRN 500!! From 300 to 2.8k In (only) 38 Years
We’re back at 7Pac/10East for One Night Only (scheduling). And yes, it’s the Big Whoop Episode 500, but Episodes are just a number.
Another number is 2.8, as in 2.8 kHz. The FCC has a draft Report and Order that the Commission will vote on at their November 15 meeting. If they pass it (they will), the old ‘300 baud’ data rate limit will be dust on HF, and a 2.8 kHz bandwidth limit will take its place. But there are details (we love details).
Here’s a link to that FCC meeting announcement (and it’s link to the November 15 video):
