New buyers entering this segment now have an even more capable option in the IC-7300MK2, while the original IC-7300 remains a cost-effective choice on the used market given its proven performance. Icom has essentially evolved an HF legend with the MK2, keeping it competitive with newer offerings (like those from Yaesu and others) by addressing user feedback and technological trends.
Both radios exemplify Icom’s knack for bringing high-end features to the ham community at an accessible price, but the IC-7300MK2 clearly raises the bar in terms of performance and connectivity for an entry-level HF SDR transceiver.
