The IC-7300MK2 Changes Everything for Radio Fans!

The Icom IC-7300 is a landmark amateur HF/50 MHz transceiver introduced in 2015 that popularized SDR (software-defined radio) technology in an entry-level rig. After a decade of strong sales and over 100,000 units sold, Icom has unveiled a successor in 2025 – the IC-7300MK2 (or “7300 Mark II”) – at the Tokyo Hamfair 2025. The IC-7300MK2 builds on the original’s legacy with enhanced technical performance and new features aimed at improving usability and remote operation.

The Icom IC-7300MK2 brings meaningful upgrades to an already highly regarded radio. By boosting the receiver’s dynamic range and reducing phase noise, it delivers cleaner reception and transmission, which will be appreciated by operators in crowded RF environments.

The addition of modern connectivity – including a LAN port for remote operation and an HDMI output for a big display – reflects how ham radio operating is evolving (integration with PCs, remote station control, etc.)

At the same time, the MK2 preserves the winning formula of the original IC-7300: a compact, 100 W HF/6m transceiver with SDR performance and a friendly touchscreen interface
For current IC-7300 owners, the IC-7300MK2 is a compelling step-up if features like an external display, built-in CW decode, or network remote control are desired, or if one operates frequently in contests where the improved receiver performance will shine. New buyers entering this segment now have an even more capable option in the IC-7300MK2, while the original IC-7300 remains a cost-effective choice on the used market given its proven performance. Icom has essentially evolved an HF legend with the MK2, keeping it competitive with newer offerings (like those from Yaesu and others) by addressing user feedback and technological trends.
Both radios exemplify Icom’s knack for bringing high-end features to the ham community at an accessible price, but the IC-7300MK2 clearly raises the bar in terms of performance and connectivity for an entry-level HF SDR transceiver.
