What a great time had by all last week. Camping at Monte Sano State Park with all of your friends, followed by an amazing ham fest. Huntsville Hamfest truly is an event everyone should partake in. A lot of us say it’s the most fun hamfest of all of them. Not necessarily because of the fest itself, which is great, but the week leading up to it. Monte Sano State Park is literally full of hams. Every single camp site and cabin is reserved well in advance by us. Hams. It’s truly remarkable driving around and seeing antennas in every camp site. People wave, say hello, stop by to talk radio, check out your setup, etc. and vice versa. This is my camp site. I also thought it would be cool to show you around the park. The cabins, the overlook, the planet-arium, day use area, lodge and more. We even had a really nasty thunderstorm on Thursday that took out one of the arms on my awning. Fortunately I just ordered a replacement part and it was less than $20! I did not expect it to be that cheap. We had a great Four Days In August event held by Steve KM9G from Temporarily Offline. 4 days of ham stuff, activities, talks, hands on stuff, all on the mountain at the John Scoble pavilion. On Friday, the big cookout takes place. Thanks to Kyle, @AA0Z for doing all the hard work coordinating the cookout. What started 6 years ago as just a small little POTA on the mountain before the hamfest, has now turned into an over 200 people strong cookout. It went so smoothly this year too. Everything was very well organized, the lines were fast, and everyone got plenty to eat. Very big kudos to Kyle and all the volunteers for making it such a success.
