INFO: Next week’s Net (7-15-20) will be over on Nick’s / KN6DAL channel Link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvQ5mDcc4zlgdW10hy3c5Fg

This is the 2 Meter Crew Anti-Net / Tech Net. It’s on air every Wednesday night at 19:00 PST. We started this in the later part of 2019 as a bunch of local Hams to have a place and time to meet weekly to chat. This is not a net in the traditional way and everyone is a visitor. We take check-ins so we can circle back to people and give them a chance to chat. There is a Facebook Group to join under “2MC”.
EchoLink and AllStar was added in the beginning of 2020 to allow people globally to check in and join the fun. Also, we leave the links up all the time. So feel free to key up the repeater anytime.

Check Out Our Discord: https://discord.gg/vT7Yh8Q

Primary EchoLink is W6VVR-R and Secondary is WG5EEK-L. You can also use our AllStar Node 51094

A huge thank you to the Vaca Valley Radio Club – W6VVR for the use of the repeater. It’s a great machine sitting on top of Mt. Vaca around 2,800 feet high, about 60 miles East from San Francisco. Link to club’s website: https://w6vvr.net/

Did you miss Field Day? Or want to see others’ operation? Check out my Playlist!

I curated a YouTube playlist that contains over 130 videos of ARRL Field Day action. Check it out here, or in the convenient embedded player below.

It’s surprising how many videos have popped up already; just a little fewer videos than last year, despite COVID-19 concerns. Many were single or few-op, but I did see a few larger operations, but I was sad to see a lot of multi-operator stations where not everyone was wearing face coverings and not distancing themselves.

21cm (1420MHz) Amateur Radio Astronomy

21cm (1420MHz) Amateur Radio Astronomy

This month, the Amateur Radio Experimenters Group (AREG) have as their guest speakers Phil Lock and Bill Cowley, talking about amateur radio astronomy.

Cheaper electronics has created great possibilities for Amateur Radio Astronomy. This talk will describe a local project to receive and map the distribution of 1420 MHz signals from neutral hydrogen in our galaxy. We briefly describe the history of 21cm RA and why it’s still of great interest to astronomers. We outline some challenges over the last few years in assembling a 2m dish with custom feed, electronics and signal processing, then show recent results from our project.

The image in the thumbnail shows recent signals (May 17th) recorded over a 24 hour period for dish elevation of 53 degrees. The signal changes as the antenna points to different parts of the Milky Way.
