Can WSPR Radio signals help find Malaysia Airlines MH370?

New "research" has led to a claim that says global tracking of aircraft is possible using weak radio signals that cover the globe, known as WSPR, or the "weak signal propagation report" network and that these radio signals can help find missing aircraft Malaysia Airlines MH370.

In this video I share my thoughts on this theory and why it’s not possible to utilize this data to find MH370.

How I connect my Icom IC-7300 to an XLR Microphone

I recently purchased a Shure MV7 microphone to use for live streams, but I also wanted to use it for my Icom IC-7300. The Shure MV7 has an XLR output as well as a USB output, so it was ideal for what I wanted to use it for. But I ran into some troubles with noise and buzz when connected to the 7300.

In this video I show exactly what I had to build and how it goes together to get the microphone to work. This should work for any XLR connected microphone you have.

I made contact with Paul VK0PD, in Antarctica!

Paul VK0PD based in Casey Station, Antarctica popped up on 20 metres this afternoon and after trying for a week to make contact I decided to go portable and try. Paul has been creating lots of pileups working hundreds of stations who want to work VK0. Despite the terrible weather, it was well worth the effort of going portable!

Bouncing signals off rocks in space? What is Meteor Scatter by Kevin VK4UH

The Amateur Radio Experimenters Group (AREG) is pleased to announce that we have a special guest speaker this month. (Dr) Kevin Johnston VK4UH will be talking to AREG about Meteor Scatter propagation and how to get started in the mode. Kevin will join AREG members assembled in our club-rooms in Adelaide via video-link from QLD.

Kevin will give us an overview of the astronomy and physics of meteors and their use for making long distance VHF contacts when no other mode of propagation is available. The presentation is aimed towards those with no prior experience of this fascinating mode of communication.

(Dr) Kevin Johnston VK4UH is a medical doctor and has been licenced for 50 years. He has had a try at almost all aspects of amateur radio through those years and is now focusing on long distance microwave operation, EME and Meteor Scatter.
