WIA Response to ACMA Class Licensing for VK Amateur Radio

The Wireless Institute of Australia’s (WIA) Spectrum Strategy Committee has released a Exposure Draft and Poll questions for the ACMA Class Licence proposal.

Members of the committee will be live to discuss the ACMA’s consultation paper, the WIA’s response and how you can have your say on the proposal by ACMA.

How Your Club Can Promote Ham Radio

How do we "promote" amateur radio to others? Let’s face it, we have all seen those images of Amateur Radio and it is these myths that we need to actively work to dispel!

Justin VK7TW has only been licenced for 36 years and has been involved in the ICT industry mainly in Government for over 40 years. Justin has been and is currently the President for our local club who is hosting this Conference, on and off in various other roles for about 22 years and is a life member of REAST. He spent two years as President of the WIA in 2017/18 and is still involved at a range of levels and committees. Justin’s interests in amateur radio are broad from 630m to 10GHz, optical, education and promotion of this great hobby.

A teeny-tiny QRP radio! Adam K6ARK takes us through the evolution and development of the "choking hazard" Pixie transceiver & antennas that he has built for use on SOTA and portable.

Adam Kimmerly K6ARK is an avid SOTA activator and portable operator. He has a small YouTube channel where he shares his adventures in building and operating portable radio equipment from some of the highest peaks in California. Whether it’s the smallest possible radio or the highest gain portable antenna, Adam is always looking for that next challenge to keep his portable operating interesting.

Ian Jackson VK3BUF presents practical steps to take when identifying, finding and dealing with ham radio interference from external sources.

Ian currently runs an electronics manufacturing company in Gippsland Victoria and has been a licenced amateur for over 45 years and is a life members of the Gippsland Gate Radio & Electronics Club in Melbourne. Earlier this year Ian received a WIA Technical Excellence Award for his interference suppression work and believes coming to terms with interference has become an integral part of Amateur Radio. Ian is also a current RASA management team member and co-moderator of the QRM Guru website.

WWFF or World Wide Flora and Fauna in Amateur Radio, is encouraging to leave your shack and go outside portable operating in Protected Flora and Fauna areas all over the world.

Paul VK5PAS gives a presentation on many aspects of the program such as who can take part, why get involved, rules, gear required + more.

Paul became a ham in 2010 and quickly became the VK/ZL coordinator for World Wide Flora and Fauna and activate many parks with partner Marija VK5MAZ. Paul recently retired from the police fire after 40 years and you can certainly tell he is now retired! Paul is a keen DXer and is also a card checker for CQ Awards and DXCC ARRL awards
