Reduce Common Mode Current (CMC) with a Easy to Build Choke

Common Mode Current can really mess with RFI and cause interference in the shack. In addition, you could also be receiving unwanted interference on the coax outer shield.

In this video I show how I built myself an easy CMC choke using a toroid and RG-58 coax.

“A Repeater Officer’s Work is Never Done” – Fixing a Ham Radio Repeater!

On a sunny spring day, I decided to go for a drive to fix my 70cm (440MHz) amateur radio repeater. The repeater controller is based off Allstar/Asterisk node and there is an IP problem that required some diagnosing and tweaking. Join me on my road trip up to the site.

3D Printing Basics – One Way to Get Started is a presentation by Scott Testi VK5TST from the Amateur Radio Experimenters Group – https://www.areg.org.au/

The brief presentation will provide an introduction to filament based 3D printing and how to get started. While the technology is large, and there are many ways to use and enjoy it, this is based on one person’s experiences. I approached 3D printing as getting a new tool to help with other hobbies, rather than my hobby being build and development of the printer.

The presentation will discuss the technology, the process, equipment (software, printer and consumables) with some tips on how to get started. Not to mention a few lessons over a year or so of playing with the hobby.
