SSB on the Quansheng UV-K5?

I came across this video from W2NDG which shows the UV-K5 and a firmware mod running single sideband (SSB) on 17 meters. Check it out, pretty cool!

So I loaded the firmware myself to have a play with this mod which are listed below. If you get this mod working, let me know in the comments below how you did, the firmware version and model of Quansheng.

Almost…On The Air!

Repeaters on this band get insane distance (worldwide) coverage. I’m documenting my build of my 10 meter repeater VK7RHF on 29.680 MHz.

The input is 29.580 MHz and uses a tone of 91.5 Hz.
It is a voted system using multiple receivers over IP/AllstarLink. Here is more info on how that system works:

Toss Out Your ILLEGAL UV-5R! This is BETTER!

The Baofeng UV-5R has long faced criticism for its alleged non-compliance with FCC regulations and its reputation as a source of spurious emissions. Moreover, it was notorious for its tendency to transmit outside the designated ham bands. Radioddity has responded to these concerns by introducing the GT-5R, essentially an improved version of the UV-5R, designed to meet FCC requirements in terms of its RF section.
