I have a friend, I’ll call him Tuje (pronounced Tooge). He has decades of experience in commercial VHF/UHF radio communications. He wants to share his knowledge, but he also wants to remain anonymous. I offered to host his videos on my channel. So here is another video in an ongoing series of helpful videos, primarily relating to VHF communications, but certainly not limited to that topic.

Challenge extended and accepted to create a homebrew 40 meter direct conversion receiver. Challenge extended from the Solder Smoke Podcast to the Ham Radio Workbench, but now to all listeners of the podcast. I guess I am ahead a little bit, but I take my time and will probably be one of the last finishers.

My wife, Sandy W7NRS, joins me for this activation on Madera Mountain. Since I am working through an injury, we chose a Summits on the Air peak with a short hike. Sandy operates voice and I operate CW. I try out the new Fara-J 2 meter antenna using my FT-60r, then we operate on 10 meters with the Yaesu FT-817 transceiver, and finally I use the CFT1 transceiver and KM4CFT Morse code paddle on 20 meters.
