Here’s another VHF only Summits on the Air activation at sunrise. I enjoy these activations so much! Can you believe I had 11 contacts? 11 other people crazy enough to be up at 5:30 am, and 4 other activators crazy enough to be on a a summit at sunrise!

Summits on the Air can be a simple as making 2 meter FM contacts with a hand-held ham radio. Hike to the top of a summit, enjoy the beauty, and talk to other SOTA folks. This morning was a special event we like to call Mini Morning Madness in Arizona. MMM is multiple hikers with ham radios all on a summit simultaneously. It’s great fun to talk to others "Summit to Summit".

Left-Handed Morse code bugs exist and are a thing? I had no idea. After showing off my newly acquired CW Bug from Hamvention several people made comments pointing out I was doing it wrong. I met Vince VE6LK and Thomas K4SWL at Hamvention this year. They graciously allowed me to tag along on a couple of “Parks on the Air” activations. Admittedly, I am still relatively new to POTA and I learned a bunch from Vince, Thomas and Eric on this activation.
This was the last day of Hamvention with my flight leaving later that day. So, we were a bit pressed for time. I had some struggles but the experienced POTA activators saved the day.
