On a return visit to the Navajo Nation, I once again stayed over at Herb’s place and we had fun exploring the area. In this video I take you along as we activate a SOTA summit that has never been activated. Herb and I were the first to put it on the air.

I met Joshua N5FY at Hamvention 2024. I joined him and Thomas K4SWL for a couple of POTA activations following the hamfest. Joshua has designed some very nice 3D printed accessories for Summits on the Air and Parks on the Air stations. He designs the accessories and then uses them in the field, so they are thoroughly tested. Josh joins us today to talk a little bit about his SOTA and POTA adventures, as well as his business making 3D printed accessories.

Dan, Brian and I discuss ham radio "chasing", the often overlooked side of Summits on the Air and Parks on the Air. Both Dan and Brian discuss improvements to their stations which improve their chasing capabilities. I talk about the Miles Per Watt Award (KMPW) for the QRPp’er.

Sometimes SOTA activations don’t go as planned. This one was one of those. I had some success with the activation but a little trouble with recording the contacts I got on the little Rockmite QRP Transceiver. Rex Harper’s Rockmite ][++ is a fun kit to build and the 6-7 hundred milliwatts can still get you the contacts.

In this video I take the FX-4CR on a 6.5 mile hike into the Woodchute Wilderness of Prescott, AZ. This is my first time using this ham radio and so these are my first impressions. This field op is both a Summits on the Air and Parks on the Air activation. Thanks to Mitch NK3H for lending me this radio.

The BaMaKey TP-II Morse code paddle is a solid paddle and great for the traveler! Manufactured by ‘BaMaTech’, a German precision engineering company owned by Markus Baseler DL6YYM, this paddle did not disappoint.
Thanks to Jason K8TSG for loaning me this paddle.

I have a friend, I’ll call him Tuje (pronounced Tooge). He has decades of experience in commercial VHF/UHF radio communications. He wants to share his knowledge, but he also wants to remain anonymous. I offered to host his videos on my channel. So here is another video in an ongoing series of helpful videos, primarily relating to VHF communications, but certainly not limited to that topic.

I met Mike K4QU at Hamvention in 2024. This was the second time I come upon his display of some of the most amazing, professionally crafted Morse code paddles. I invited Mike to join us to find out more about "March Magnetic Paddles" and also a little about his ham radio journey.

With 2 months of beta testing behind me with the NEW CFT1 5-band transceiver, here are my initial thoughts. I have completed over 10 Summits on the Air (SOTA) activations with this very capable rig, making contacts all the way to Japan with it. In this video I briefly talk about my experience building this kit. I also run through the features and then show it in use on a SOTA activation on Wahl Knoll located in North-Eastern Arizona.
