Twice a year we coordinate with the Summits on the Air (SOTA) operators from Europe to be on mountain tops at the same time. We do this when seasonal propagation conditions are good in hopes of achieving QRP summit to summit contacts.

I found this CW Keyer on Amazon for under $35 and I absolutely love what I can do with it. Not only can it be used for practicing Morse code, but it is also a very useful addition to my portable ham radio station. I can quickly and easily program Morse code into the keyer to send over the airwaves with the push of a button. I can also adjust my CW speed with the turn of a dial.

It’s correctly pointed out that you don’t need a regulated power supply when you have a solar system. You should power your DC radios directly from your DC power source… the battery.

My friend Malen VE6VID was visiting Arizona from Canada this week. I was able to join him on one of his Summits on the Air excursions. I drove back into the Hickey Mountain area, near Jerome, Arizona. We hiked the summit and got on our ham radios.
