Herb N7HG, Brad KA9JDE and I drive to the gate at Hutch Mountain Lookout and I hiked to the top with our ham radio gear to participate in Summits on the Air and Parks on the Air.

LCR Meter - Homebrew Test Equipment #hamradio #electronics
I went to the Oro Valley Amateur Radio Hamfest in Marana, AZ and found a great deal on an LCR meter.
I’ve made progress on the Solder Smoke Podcast homebrew 40 meter direct conversion receiver. I didn’t have an LCR meter for testing the transformers of the mixer. It really isn’t necessary to measure the inductance of the transformers. Just making sure there are 10 turns is good enough. But I wanted to be thorough and wanted to makes sure I have an LCR meter for future projects. So I picked one up at the hamfest.

KM4CFT Iambic Paddle Kit – Lightweight, Affordable, and Fun
Jonathan, KM4CFT, is best known for his CFT1 Transceiver, but he’s also come up with a few other great products at HamGadgets.com. The KM4CFT Iambic Paddle Kit is one of them — an easy-to-build, lightweight (just 1.3 oz) 3D-printed paddle that’s a blast to use.
It uses magnetic tension, has rubber strips on the bottom for grip, and works great either handheld or on a metal surface for POTA or SOTA. It’s available in eleven lever colors, and you can add an optional leg plate and strap for even more portability.

During my vacation in Wales, I teamed up with Sandy (W7NRS) and Kevin (MW0KXN) for a Summits on the Air activation in the Welsh mountains. The hike was amazing — rolling green hills, farms scattered across the valleys, and even a view of the coast way off in the distance.
Kevin went above and beyond with his hospitality. He brought all the radio gear, handled transportation, packed snacks, and even got the word out to local operators so we’d have plenty of chasers waiting for us.
It was an awesome day of hiking, radio, and friendship — a true SOTA adventure in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Real World Comparison of HT Antennas to a Unity Gain Antenna
HT Antennas VS Unity Gain Antennas
I have a friend, I’ll call him Tuje (pronounced Tooge). He has decades of experience in commercial VHF/UHF radio communications. He wants to share his knowledge, but he also wants to remain anonymous. I offered to host his videos on my channel. So here is another video in an ongoing series of helpful videos, primarily relating to VHF communications, but certainly not limited to that topic.
