Your radio gear isn’t just battling noise and interference — it’s battling the weather too. Wind, rain, heat, and storms can damage antennas, detune coax, and change your RF propagation without warning. That’s why every ham needs a reliable way to monitor local conditions right inside the shack.
In this video, I’ll show you how a Raspberry Pi weather station gives you the real-time data you need to:
• Protect your antennas and coax from sudden storms 🌩️
• Plan safer operating when high winds or lightning roll in ⚡
• Understand how temperature, pressure, and humidity affect your radio signals 📡
• Keep your ham shack running strong all year long 🔧
Stop guessing at what’s happening outside. With this DIY Pi-powered weather station, you’ll always know what conditions your gear is facing — and you’ll make smarter choices before keying up.
👉 Whether you’re into ham radio, Raspberry Pi projects, or just want to protect your shack investment, this project is the missing link you didn’t know you needed.

Great Expecations... Does the BG5CQV CQV-SWR-508 have RFI Issues?
Is the CQB SWR/Power Meter really noisy, or is it just ham radio rumor?
In my last video we swept the bands with a TinySA and found no RFI — but some viewers weren’t convinced. So in this follow-up, I connected the TinySA directly to the meter’s transmitter port with a dummy load on the antenna port to eliminate every possible variable.
The result? Still no detectable RFI.

👉 Tiny SA Ultra: https://geni.us/Ellyz
👉 Tiny SA Case: https://geni.us/jE2Pq5
👉 2x20dB Attenuators for Tiny SA Harmonics Testing: https://geni.us/3JI0IJx
In this video you’ll see:
• How to set up a TinySA Ultra to hunt shack noise
• Why using a dummy load gives you the real answer
• Step-by-step RFI testing across multiple HF bands
• What happens when you repeat the test with the community’s suggested method
Whether you’re chasing phantom birdies or just curious about RFI hunting, this test shows you how to separate fact from myth and keep your shack quiet.
👉 Have you tested your own gear for RFI? Drop your results in the comments below.

Today we take your questions … and hope to answer them. I’m also finally going to play with a radio I have been carrying around for years and see what we can figure out about it. The Small Wonder Labs DSW-II-20. The Small Wonder Labs company went out of business in 2013 when founder Dave Benson, K1SWL closed the doors.
