This $35 Radio Does WHAT?! SI4732 V2 vs V3 Deep Dive
Today we’re taking a hands-on look at two hackable shortwave radios — the SI4732 V2 and V3.
Both radios feature AM, FM, SSB, CB, and HF coverage, but the V3 adds upgrades like a high-Z antenna port, better headphone amp, and a fully injection-molded case.
We’ll compare antenna options, walk through the menus, demo reception on HF & FM broadcast, test FT8 & SSTV signals, and then open both radios up to see what’s inside — including the ESP32-based controller and how it enables Wi-Fi control and custom firmware.
