Any spectrum analzyers has a few basic functions:

* Set the FREQUENCY of interest
* Set the boundaries or SPAN you want to see to the left or right of your desired frequency
* Set the REFERENCE level that you want to visualize frequencies against
* Set the RBW or Resolution Bandwidth for how many inspection points there are instead of the SPAN you’re looking at.

One of the more versatile antennas out there, the End Fed Half Wave, is a great option to carry. This antenna is extremely portable, easy to setup and works on 40,20,15,10 ham bands without a tuner.
