Why Do Most Ops Use QRP for Summits on the Air

QRP is a ham radio term that means “low power transition”. Most people agree QRP is not more than 10 watts output power. So why do most people who participate in Summits on the Air use a 10-watt radio when there are so many radios out there that transmit 100 watts or more? In this video I offer up my explanation.

I drove to the top of Mingus Mountain to operate my radio for Summits on The Air using 100 Watts. This was for the North American Summit to Summit event. While on the mountain I encounter a hang glider and a paraglider preparing to hop off the mountain.
