There’s a channel called @TheDaytripper where they go to different cities in Texas, explore the area, history, food, etc. This time, they went to Galveston Island. Caitlin @HamRadioK8FAE asks, "how far is Galveston?" "It’s only 2 hours" I say. "We could go on Saturday if you want." So we made a little day trip out of it. There’s too much to do on the island to see it all in one day, so we thought the best thing to do would be to explore Galveston Island State Park. Something I’ve honestly not really done. I’ve been there plenty of times, but I always go to the ocean side. There’s a whole other side to the park on the bay side that needed exploring. Being that it was Halloween, we had to be back home by 6:30 to take her son trick or treating. So we set out at the crack of 10:30am. The goal was simple. Explore the park. The ocean side, the camp sites, and the bay side. Obviously I had a couple HF radios and antennas so we could POTA too. This is part one of the trip, exploring the park. Part two is an epic POTA activation. I didn’t know where we would end up activating from or what radio or antenna we would use, but I will say we made the right choice.
