Halloween POTA At The Beach Galveston Island State Park

I can’t tell you enough how much I love the JPC-12 Antenna (not sponsored). I loved it when I reviewed it (they did send it to me) and I love it to this day. I just never use it. I don’t like fussing with radials. I just want to put my end fed up and get on the air. I’m not what some people would call a "patient person". Which is why I always gravitate to the EFHW. I’m up in minutes. I’ve been wanting to take this antenna out again though. It lives in a box in my closet and I can hear it calling, nay, beckoning for me to use it. And I want to. After reviewing it a year or so ago, it really impressed me. And I was doing QRP in that video! https://youtu.be/iCPC2TIs65k?si=7dwScLKL3l3axntZ Friday night as I’m laying in bed thinking about what radios and antennas I want to take to Galveston, as one does, I thought about the JPC-12. I knew where I wanted to go in the park and it would be the perfect antenna for the location I was planning on activating from. I brought my 891 go bag as well as I was planning on hiking out onto the marsh lands of the bay side for a picturesque activation. For the lady, of course. Unfortunately we weren’t able to activate from the bay side of the park, but I think this just might have turned out better. With ground spike in sand, radials in the salt water amplifier, and an SWR that barely made a blip on my 7300MKII, this antenna brought one of the biggest pileups I’ve had in a while. This video is the whole activation. While I don’t normally post an entire POTA activation, this was just too much fun. I hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoyed making. Not a bad first time to Galveston for Caitlin I’d say.

BTW, and again, not sponsored at all but I like this product and want to support a ham making cool ham stuff for hams, if you want one of the ECT Enterprises dual mic things we’re using, he makes one for Icom and one for Yaesu. I paid $40 for my Icom one, looks like they’re $45 now. He also makes one for Yaesu that, per his QRZ page, is $35. You can email him n1ect@outlook.com Here’s the QRZ page for Icom: https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/ect-enterprises-icom-mic-splitter-box-for-pota.1005157/#post-7386440 and for the Yaesu version: https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/ect-enterprises-yaesu-mic-splitter-box-for-pota.989721/#post-7391160
