Today, I made some new radials and moved the Signature 9 antenna from its temporary tilt-over mast to its new home on the ground post. Slight tune required on some of the ham radio bands required due to the different ground conditions (100m wire -vs- 350m of wire radials for Signature 12.4). I will cover that in the user guide, don’t worry about it. But what do you think? Looks nice, eh? Callum.

Antenna Success Story: The Experiment that Rocked my Ham Radio Receive!
Launch day is Friday 10th Feb. Delivery might take a few days because Wendy and Loki need to prep 50 x Signature 9 kits on Monday and Tuesday. So dispatch will start around 15th February. Phase 2 (production) launch will be about 3-4 weeks later. I need to get the plate drawings changed – just a couple of very minor adjustments. Overall, looking good. I’m pleased. Callum.

1,500 Watt QRO Challenge! In this video, I’m trying to melt some plastic to test some new antenna material. I’m using Ecoflex 15, which is a very heavy duty coax. I’m also using a RatPack switch from Array Solutions and I’m showing you how I’m trying to melt the plastic with my Acom 2000 Amplifier. Can it handle this power? Tune in to see the entire process! I explore the idea of using a special glue to make any telescopic pole totally permanent, specifically the DX Commander. Although we recommend HCL EzyIamps, I went ahead and tested out different types of glue, including regular fast setting and the slow-setting mitre stuff from Screwfix (UK). Using a cable tie and a small amount of super glue, I show you the process of applying the glue to the base sections of the pole, being careful not to use too much (and lose length). I also recommend using a slow-curing gel rather than traditional fast glue for best results. At the end of the video, I tested the pole’s stability and measured the length to make sure we get full extension. Overall, this video is perfect for anyone interested in home-brewing and super-charging their telescopic poles and making them permanent! Next up: We’ll try a 12.4m 🙂 Cheers and 73, Callum.
PS – Slow-acting superglue is also known as "control flow" or "gel" superglue and they are thicker in consistency than regular superglue. The thicker consistency allows for greater control and precision when applying the glue, and the slower curing time gives you more time to position to adjust before the glue sets. Some superglue, like the one I used, also comes with a activator spray, basically speeds up (or slows down!) the curing time as desired.
