Just a short video with some contacts made with my Icom IC-705 on 40 metres (7 MHz).

I was only using the internal battery and the antenna was a half wave end fed wire only a few feet off the ground.

Soon I’ll be upgrading the antenna to allow working on 80m and getting it much higher, but not bad for a first run. You’ll even notice a bit of DX from some US stations.

The Icom IC-705 has not been added to the official list of radios supported by WSJT-X. In this video however, I will show you how you can set the radio up to work with WSJT-X and perhaps other digital modes.

As of the date of this video, the latest version of WSJT-X is v2.2.2.

Future releases will no doubt support the IC-705 and when that occurs you will not need to change the CI-V address as per this video however all other settings will still be relevant.

Today my Icom IC-705 arrived on my doorstep. I decided to get the camera out as quick as possible as I wanted to take the radio out, but not before unboxing to see what you get.

The Icom IC705 is the latest offering from ICOM and continues their range of SDR based transceivers which include the IC-7300 and IC-9700.

The Icom IC-705 is a light portable rig that covers from DC to 70cm and is either internal or external battery powered. It has the same touch screen interface as the Icom 7300 & 9700.

What can I say, the Icom IC-7300 is an amazing radio! I’m glad that I purchased this radio and can’t wait to use it more. I believe that it is the best HF/6m ham radio that I have owned.
