PREPARATION FOR WILDFIRES
DATE 06/06/2026.
Kicking off at 10:00 AM, this event is not a formal competition. Its primary objective is to simultaneously engage multiple counties in Idaho, testing their antennas and facilitating communications among them.
We anticipate that this gathering will provide an enjoyable platform for camaraderie, experimentation, and testing within our hobby. Please use the following (band conditions permitting)
◦ 3.920 LSB
◦ 7.190 LSB
◦ 5.371.5 USB
EXCHANGE
Please exchange the following:
◦ 6 digit Maidenhead Grid
◦ County
◦ Signal Report
NVIS may be the best or only way to communicate because of the mountains. During the wildfire season please use the wilderness protocol time frames (every 3 hours starting at 7am) with the above frequencies to listen for wildfire calls that need assistance or pass along information.
Additional wildfire information may also be found on VarAC in the broadcast section on 40m, during the wildfire season. Please use alert tag "wildfires" when posting.
2 iPhone Apps Every Ham Radio Operator Needs Right Now — WSPR Watch & HamAlert | K6UDA
📱 WSPR Watch & HamAlert — 2 iPhone Apps Every Ham Needs | K6UDA Radio
Your phone can do a lot more for your ham radio operation than you think. Bob, K6UDA, demos two powerful and completely free iPhone apps that give you real-time visibility into your spots, propagation, and DX activity — right in your pocket.
🔭 APP #1 — WSPR Watch
A graphical spot viewer for WSPRnet. See exactly who’s hearing you on digital modes, on a clean visual map and table. Tap any spot to pull up the callsign on QRZ. Export your data as CSV for deeper analysis. If you run WSPR beacons and you’re still checking wsprnet.org in a browser, you’re doing it the hard way.
🔔 APP #2 — HamAlert
Never miss a DX spot again. HamAlert sends push notifications straight to your iPhone the moment a station you care about appears on the DX cluster, Reverse Beacon Network, SOTAwatch, POTA, or PSK Reporter. Set up triggers by callsign, DXCC, band, mode, CQ zone, summit, park reference — and get buzzed the second that rare DX or SOTA activator hits the air.
In this video Bob covers:
✅ WSPR Watch walkthrough — maps, tables, spot details & QRZ lookup
✅ HamAlert setup — triggers, filters, and push notification config
✅ Real-world demo of both apps in action
✅ Who these apps are for (and who can skip them)
✅ Tips for getting the most out of each app
Both apps are FREE on the App Store. No excuses.
