Today we’re checking out the Retevis HS4, a 10-meter export radio that looks like a classic CB but hides a surprisingly capable HF transceiver inside.

I’ll walk through the unboxing, setup, programming, and real-world contacts, including a live QSO from southeast Arizona using just 40 watts into the 10-meter band.

Today we’re taking a hands-on look at two hackable shortwave radios — the SI4732 V2 and V3.

Both radios feature AM, FM, SSB, CB, and HF coverage, but the V3 adds upgrades like a high-Z antenna port, better headphone amp, and a fully injection-molded case.

We’ll compare antenna options, walk through the menus, demo reception on HF & FM broadcast, test FT8 & SSTV signals, and then open both radios up to see what’s inside — including the ESP32-based controller and how it enables Wi-Fi control and custom firmware.
