In this video, we continue building the TOADs ham radio digital interface with Part 3: the Audio OUT circuit.

This stage takes the audio from your computer’s sound card and safely sends it into your radio’s microphone input — so you can actually transmit digital modes like FT8, Winlink, JS8Call, APRS, and more.

We’ll cover:
• How a capacitor (C1) protects your gear by blocking DC
• How the variable resistor (VR2) works as a volume control
• How to adjust audio levels to avoid distortion

This is the mirror image of the Audio IN circuit — but instead of your radio talking to the computer, now the computer can talk back to the radio.

Whether you’re running FT8, Winlink, APRS, Packet, or AllStar, this circuit is the reason your computer can decode signals and turn them into text, messages, and contacts. We’ll explain it step by step in plain English, so even if you’re new to electronics, you’ll walk away knowing exactly how it works.
