Ham Radio Digital Modes: How Your Radio’s Audio Gets Into the Computer
This is the second video in my series on the TOADs DI USB Digital Interface. In the last episode, we looked at how the PTT circuit works. Today we’ll break down the Audio In circuit — the simple path that takes the sounds from your radio’s speaker and safely delivers them into your computer’s microphone input via USB-C.
Whether you’re running FT8, Winlink, APRS, Packet, or AllStar, this circuit is the reason your computer can decode signals and turn them into text, messages, and contacts. We’ll explain it step by step in plain English, so even if you’re new to electronics, you’ll walk away knowing exactly how it works.
