Sorting Out Grounding (#409)

Sorting Out Grounding (#409)

Oggie Barry Rosenbloom, KC1OPK, has questions about grounding. We sort through them. The bottom line is that the elements of the actual grounding system (station single point ground, etc.), should use pressure connectors such as crimping, and the coaxes that carry RF can be soldered or crimped as convenient.

How I connect my Icom IC-7300 to an XLR Microphone

How I connect my Icom IC-7300 to an XLR Microphone

I recently purchased a Shure MV7 microphone to use for live streams, but I also wanted to use it for my Icom IC-7300. The Shure MV7 has an XLR output as well as a USB output, so it was ideal for what I wanted to use it for. But I ran into some troubles with noise and buzz when connected to the 7300.

In this video I show exactly what I had to build and how it goes together to get the microphone to work. This should work for any XLR connected microphone you have.

Disclaimer: I bear no responsibility for any damage to your radio, microphone or equipment. Check your model and check for voltage on the mic pin before connecting!

When is Ham Radio Not Ham Radio? (#408)

Gerry Moore, VE7BDM, says some hams he knows claim certain ham radio activities aren’t ham radio! We look at the spirit of ham radio embodied in the FCC statement of the basis and purpose of ham radio to see what goes?
