In this video I take the Xiegu X6100 to a SOTA summit for the 4th time (Ludden Mountain W7A/MN-136). I operate exclusively on the Bioenno 4.5 Ah external battery at 10 watts. I made 74 contacts including 2 DX. After this activation I offer the top 5 things I like about this radio AND the top 5 things I dislike about the radio. I finish up by answering the question, "If you don’t own a radio for summits on the air would you buy the Xiegu X6100?"

Sometimes it’s just about getting out there with your friends and enjoying the company and the great outdoors. We had a crew of four on this joint activation, with Malen VE6VID joining us, all the way down from Alberta, Canada. Brian W7JET and Wilson were also part of the crew. This was a desert hike to the top of First Water Overlook W7A/MN-087. We qualified this summit in just a few minutes using an HT with a rubber duck antenna.

I tried a couple of new things on this Parks on the Air activation of Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior Arizona. The drive over antenna mast mount built for me by Tony K7AJF worked out great. I also tried logging with my cell phone using HAMRS. Follow along as I set up the station and start logging the QSOs on 20 meters SSB and CW.

In this video I take the Xiegu X6100 up a SOTA summit for the 3rd time (Dixie Benchmark W7A/MN-131). On the 2nd outing, the radio got extremely hot while operating. I wasn’t sure if this was just from sun exposure or something within the radio. So I decided to eliminate the sun as a factor on this Summits on the Air activation. There were a couple of surprises along the trail too – you never know what you will encounter when you get out and activate portable.
