How to Use FT8 | Complete Setup Guide Using the Xiegu G90
Learn how to use FT8 with the Xiegu G90 in this complete step-by-step FT8 setup guide. I’ll walk through the hardware, radio settings, audio levels, CAT control, WSJT-X configuration, transmit power, and the complete process of getting on the air with FT8. I’m using the Xiegu G90 and TOADs DI8 digital interface as the example station, but the FT8 concepts, WSJT-X settings, operating process, and troubleshooting apply to many HF radios.

Raspberry Pi 5 vs. Older Tech: Performance & Cost #shorts
Comparing the new Raspberry Pi 5 to older Peladen machines. Unpacking performance, cost, and form factor similarities across Pi generations. Which reigns supreme?
Today I’m soldering up a batch of TOADs DI and TOADs DI8 digital interface boards. The black PCBs are DI8s for Xiegu radios, and the purple PCBs are the standard DI boards. I walk through the soldering process, install the headers, inspect the work, and show how these little boards go from bare kit parts to ready-to-use radio interface tools for digital modes like FT8 on your Xiegu G90, G106 and X5105.

This is also a service I offer. If you want a DI or DI8 but don’t want to solder it yourself, I can assemble it, test it, prove it works, and check that it fits the 3D printed case before it ships. In this video I test the finished boards with a Xiegu G90, make FT8 contacts, and verify the whole setup works from solder joint to radio contact.

In this video, I take a closer look at the latest real-world photos of the Xiegu G7250, including the front control head and the rear of the RF unit, and dig into three specific hardware questions plus one increasingly important opinion: what should this radio actually cost?
First, the G7250 appears to have three different controls related to power. There is the prominent red power button on the control head, along with two rotary controls labeled with power-related functions. That raises an obvious question: which control manages which kind of power? Are we looking at radio power, transmit power, display power, or some combination of those functions?
Second, the rear of the G7250 reveals a pair of red and white RCA connectors. What exactly are they for? They could potentially be related to audio, I/Q, external accessories, or another function entirely. Until Xiegu releases complete documentation, the photographs give us clues but not the whole answer.
Third, we finally have a clear view of the G7250’s two SO-239 antenna connectors. That immediately raises another practical question: how do the dual antenna ports operate? Are they independently selectable by band, assigned separately to HF and 6 meters, switchable from the control head, or intended for another configuration?
The new rear-panel photos also show the large cooling fan, Anderson Powerpole-style DC input, accessory connector, DB9 connection, RJ45 network-style connector, chassis ground, and other details that give us our best look yet at how the G7250 RF deck is actually constructed.
The Xiegu G7250 uses Xiegu’s newer D-Core direct RF-sampling SDR architecture and is expected to provide approximately 100 watts on HF and 90 watts on 6 meters. The radio uses a split design with a separate RF deck and large touchscreen control head, making the connection between those two units especially interesting.
And then there’s the question that may determine whether the G7250 is a hit or a very interesting radio that people admire from a distance: the price.
Xiegu has not announced a final retail price yet. In the video, I give my opinion on where I think the G7250 needs to land financially, especially considering the competition from established 100-watt HF radios from Icom, Yaesu, and others.
The G7250 continues to look more real with every batch of photographs and operating footage, but there are still important details we need Xiegu to explain before we really know what this radio is capable of.
What do you think the Xiegu G7250 should cost?

This RT95 Refused To Switch Modes… Until I Found The Trick
In this video I’m testing Retevis RT95 Amazon return #21 to see if this “broken” dual band mobile ham radio actually has a problem, or if it just needs a little bench time before going to a new ham.
This RT95 powers on, receives, transmits, and makes good power, but there’s one annoying issue: it won’t switch from VFO mode to memory/channel mode. At first it looks like the V/M button or memory mode might be broken, but after testing the radio, checking the menu, reading and writing with CHIRP, trying resets, and programming a memory from the front panel, the real answer finally shows up.
This is a practical ham radio troubleshooting video for anyone working with the Retevis RT95, Anytone AT-778UV, or similar compact dual band mobile radios. We check basic radio function, microphone buttons, receive audio, transmit audio, power output, VFO mode, memory mode, factory reset behavior, and how to store a channel manually when the radio has no memories saved.
If your Retevis RT95 won’t switch to channel mode, gives an error when pressing V/M, seems stuck in VFO, or refuses to show memory channels, this video may save you from thinking the radio is dead when it may just have nothing programmed into memory.
I also tease an upcoming Radioddity DB25-D go-box build with an AIOC interface, APRS digipeater ideas, Raspberry Pi integration, and an Apache case project for portable ham radio.
This is part of my ongoing series testing and rescuing returned radios, where many “broken” Amazon return ham radios turn out to be perfectly usable after basic setup, programming, or a little operator archaeology.
