remind you that I sell the boards
and save you the headache if you’d rather not do the soldering yourself
If you watch this and think:
“Yeah… I’m not doing that.”
Good news — I’m now offering a soldering service on the website.
For $25, I’ll solder and test up to 4 boards for you.
If you need more than 4, just stack the service.
That means:
no solder station setup
no chasing tiny parts around the desk
no wondering if you bridged something
no guessing if it works
You get the board, I do the bench work.
Check the website for:

Flash Meshtastic and Make First Contact: Meshnology N39 Build
In this video, I build an N39 Meshtastic node kit, flash the latest Meshtastic firmware, pair it to the Meshtastic app, and test basic communication with another node.

If you are wondering how to build a Meshtastic node from a kit, how to flash Meshtastic firmware, or how to get your first Meshtastic message sent between two LoRa nodes, this video walks through the full process from start to finish.
Meshtastic is an open-source, off-grid mesh communication system that uses LoRa radios to send text messages and position data without relying on cell service, Wi-Fi, or internet. A Meshtastic node can be used for hiking, camping, emergency communications, neighborhood mesh experiments, ham radio-adjacent learning, or just exploring what LoRa can do.
This build uses the N39 Meshtastic kit. The goal is to go from parts in a box to a working Meshtastic node that can talk to another node.
In this video:
– What comes in the N39 Meshtastic kit
– How the N39 hardware goes together
– How to flash Meshtastic firmware
– How to use the Meshtastic web flasher
– How to connect the node to the Meshtastic app
– How to pair the node with a phone
– How to send a test message
– How to confirm the node is working
– Common build and flashing issues to watch for
This is intended as a beginner-friendly Meshtastic build guide. You do not need to be a radio expert to follow along, but you should be comfortable handling small electronics, USB cables, firmware flashing tools, and basic troubleshooting.
Meshtastic works by creating a mesh network between compatible LoRa nodes. Each node can pass messages along to other nodes, extending communication beyond direct radio range when enough nodes are present. Range depends on antenna choice, terrain, height, power settings, and local RF conditions.
If your Meshtastic node will not flash, will not pair, or will not send messages, check the USB cable, serial driver, boot/reset button timing, firmware target, Bluetooth pairing state, and app settings. Most Meshtastic setup problems are small cable, driver, firmware, or pairing issues rather than a failed device.
This video is part of my Meshtastic playlist where I build, test, flash, compare, and troubleshoot different Meshtastic nodes and LoRa devices.

You Can’t Break This Baofeng (Just Start Pressing Buttons)
The Baofeng UV-5G Mini is basically a tiny UV-5R… but locked to GMRS frequencies. In this video I take a quick look at the radio, walk through the programming software, and show how easy it is to get it on the air.

The software interface is a little clunky, but the good news is you really can’t hurt anything by experimenting. If you’re new to GMRS radios, sometimes the best way to learn is to just start clicking buttons and see what happens.
We’ll also test it on a local GMRS repeater and see how this little radio performs.
If you’ve used the UV-5R before, this will feel very familiar… just with a GMRS twist.
