Counterpoise vs Radial vs Ground Plane: What's the Difference?
Learn the difference between an antenna ground plane, radial system, and counterpoise wire to optimize your RF current return path.
Many amateur radio operators confuse these return systems, leading to inefficient setups and unnecessary ground loss. This guide clarifies how each configuration functions as a return path for RF current, helping you determine which is necessary for your specific antenna installation.
We cover the technical distinctions between a resonant antenna setup and non-resonant designs. You will gain a clear understanding of how to manage RF radiation spectrum requirements effectively. By using the provided diagnostic matrix, you can match the correct return path to your antenna type, ensuring better performance and fewer signal issues.
Whether you are building a vertical antenna or adjusting a wire dipole, these foundational concepts allow you to make informed decisions about your station. Stop guessing about your grounding strategy and start building more efficient systems today.

I Finally Ran 12V Into My Explorer The Right(ish) Way!
I’ve been using this 12 Volt Power DC-10A-LFP 10A Variable DC-DC Charger available here: ⭐️ https://www.12voltpower.com/?ref=3 (affiliate of course) for several months. The Charger works great. Variable output from 2.5, 5, and 10 amps with the turn of a knob. It’s RF Quite too. It’s everything a portable/mobile ham running external battery would want. Turns out my cars wiring isn’t quite up to the task. You see, I had this plugged into the 12V socket in my car and let’s just say things may or may not have melted. The wire used in my car is really thin gauge and couldn’t handle the current after all. Thanks Ford. After replacing 4-5 12V sockets (at ~$15 each), I finally thought it might be time to run a proper wire from the cars battery into the cab so I could charge the 100Ah battery I use with this charger. Would you believe it actually worked? Prob not the way you should wire it up, but it’s the way I did it and that’s good enough for me.

The Xiegu G7250 is real, powered on, and operating. In this video, I’m sharing the first real-world video and audio footage I’ve seen of Xiegu’s upcoming 100-watt HF and 6-meter SDR transceiver, rather than computer renderings of product images. We’ll examine the actual G7250 hardware, its separate RF deck and 7-inch touchscreen control head, the D-Core direct RF-sampling system, spectrum display, waterfall, physical controls, microphone, and what the radio sounds like in operation.
The Xiegu G7250 is currently described as a split-design software-defined radio covering 0.5–30 MHz and 50–54 MHz, with up to 100 watts on HF and 90 watts on 6 meters. Announced operating modes include SSB, CW, AM, NFM, and digital modes. Other preliminary features include adjustable DSP filters, noise reduction, noise blanking, voice recording, CW message memories, network-based baseband streaming, and a built-in automatic antenna tuner with a stated 20–150 ohm matching range. Xiegu is also advertising a receiver MDS of -138 dBm, a maximum transmit current of 25 amps, and a 1 Hz minimum tuning step. These specifications are still preliminary and could change before production.
One of the biggest unanswered questions is the connection between the G7250 control head and RF deck. Xiegu’s promotional information describes Ethernet and network functionality, but it has not yet been confirmed whether the control head can operate through a normal network switch, router, VPN, or internet connection, or whether it is limited to a direct local cable. Pricing has also not been announced. A European distributor currently lists a preliminary September 30, 2026 release date, but that date is not yet a firm worldwide shipping commitment.
This video covers everything currently known about the Xiegu G7250, including the first operating footage, D-Core architecture, receiver demonstrations, preliminary specifications, release-date information, Ethernet questions, antenna-tuner limitations, and how this new 100-watt Xiegu compares with radios such as the Xiegu G90, X6200
