After getting familiar with the G7250, I connect it to the antenna and see what it can do on HF under less-than-ideal band conditions. Despite a rough day on the bands, the radio manages a solid first contact, giving us an early look at its receive audio, transmit performance, tuning behavior, and real-world usability.

There is plenty more to test on the Xiegu G7250, including output power, receiver performance, digital modes, CW, filtering, firmware, heat, spectral purity, and long-term reliability. I’ve been fascinated by the Jungle Antenna for a few years now. I don’t know where I first heard of it but I saw a vendor at Hamcation last year, maybe the year before, selling these and I thought it was so cool. Just too cheap to pay for one (am I right?). Especially when you can make one for a few dollars and maybe 5 minutes of your time. Quite possibly the easiest antenna I’ve ever made. So here it is. The 2 Meter Jungle Antenna. Hope you enjoy!

Ham Radio Commander - Electronic Glass Cockpit - The Full Reveal!

Meet Radio Commander — the glass-cockpit control panel I’ve been building for amateur radio stations.

The idea is simple: one clean, unified operating surface for controlling different radios without having to relearn the front panel every time. In this short demonstration, I’ll show you Radio Commander working with my Kenwood equipment, including its dual-receiver and dual-radio features.

It currently supports the Kenwood TS-990S, TS-890S and TS-590S/SG through external radio drivers, with more HF radios planned from Icom, Elecraft and Yaesu.

This is still an evolving community project, but it’s already becoming a genuinely useful part of my station.
