2m activations can be a blast. There are so many ways to make contacts with 2m, and on this summit I used a bunch of them. The result? Plenty of contacts in the log and a heck of a lot of fun. Give some other 2m modes some love on your next activation.

Yes that’s right, a 1 watt contact using a Icom IC-705 on the 144 MHz (2 meter) band across to New Zealand (ZL).
Strong tropospheric propagation was responsible for such an event happening. We also worked New Zealand on other higher bands too! Check out the video here:

You’ve seen the Mini Pixie in the Altoids Smalls tin (https://youtu.be/35TRM-uGWsY), but this prototype Micro Pixie (aka "Choking Hazard") that I built brings tiny to a whole new level. What better way to put it to the test than to attempt a SOTA activation with it?
So today, we take this ridiculous little thing out to a never-before activated SOTA summit to see what it can really do. Is 2.7 g of radio and 850mW of output power enough to get the job done? Watch and see.

I keep hearing "the bands are dead". Well in this live stream, let’s see how much I can hear! I have my radio running on the 40 meter (7 MHz) band running FT8.
As you can see, Gridtracker is running with a realtime map including the RX calls, RX DXCC and realtime receiving data. How many stations will I hear?
I will be running this from Monday 28th Dec 12:00 UTC through to around 22:00 UTC which is 11pm to around 9am local (all night).
See if I hear you! How far away from my station are you when I decoded you? Let me know in the live chat and comments!
Antenna is a simple EFHW antenna.
