I met Vince VE6LK and Thomas K4SWL at Hamvention this year. They graciously allowed me to tag along on a couple of “Parks on the Air” activations. Admittedly, I am still relatively new to POTA and I learned a bunch from Vince, Thomas and Eric on this activation.
This was the last day of Hamvention with my flight leaving later that day. So, we were a bit pressed for time. I had some struggles but the experienced POTA activators saved the day.

In this video I set up my prototype CaHR QRP EFHW antenna to do some testing. The antenna isn’t available yet so for now I test we are small and we take small steps. the antenna will actually cover higher than qrp so will be perfect for something like a G90. Even at less than 10′ horizontal I was still able to hear as far away as Hawaii form Chicago with very little noise. I was also able to make about 10 contacts in about 1/2 hour with 10 watts. I did also check the antenna on 40m and it seemed to get out about 300 miles or so. .Next time I want to test on 40m more and get more data.
