Folks, in this video we perform a build of a DIY RF Power Tap for Ham Radio, if we build it right we should get about -40dB of attenuation off of the tap. We can use this tap to measure signals from devices like radios with instruments like an oscilloscope or spectrum analyzer without the worry of damage.

Stainless Steel Security screws are useful in some applications but I had some trouble using them to hold on my license plate. The stainless steel reacted with the aluminum (or maybe its tin) of the license plate and corroded the threads of the bolt which were installed in a steel threaded insert on my car. Dissimilar metals tend to corrode…

Kevin, KE8HWH, is planting a HF antenna with veritcals on the ground with 1000 watts output, and he is worried about his Goldfish that live in a pond right outside the radials. Are they safe? Or is there a chance that he could harm or even fry his fish?

Kunanyi / Mount Wellington ("the mountain") is known for it’s wild weather including high winds and extreme snow and ice even during summer months! So why would anyone want to build a radio broadcasting tower on top?
Today I took a trip to give you a tour of the site, including a surprise cameo by some workers who were perched high above the ground doing preventative maintenance.
It’s Hobart’s tallest structure at 130m and is perched 1250m (4101 feet) above sea level. The mountain is also home to a 70cm amateur repeater – VK7RTC.

Many hams starting out in HF see the appeal of these highly portable antennas and think its the gateway to the air waves. They aren’t cheap however. Building a simple wire antenna is pennies on the dollar cheaper and more effective. They are convenient though. Or are they? There are things that are left unsaid on the instructions, today we will talk about those things.
