I curated a YouTube playlist that contains over 130 videos of ARRL Field Day action. Check it out here, or in the convenient embedded player below.
It’s surprising how many videos have popped up already; just a little fewer videos than last year, despite COVID-19 concerns. Many were single or few-op, but I did see a few larger operations, but I was sad to see a lot of multi-operator stations where not everyone was wearing face coverings and not distancing themselves.
Howard WB2UZE and John K2NY of the Long Island CW Club visit with David W0DHG and talk about their CW training program. The club started in 2017 offers over 45 hours of CW classes EACH week, and has grown to over 600 members from all 50 states and 15 countries all over the world.
Jim NO1PC and David W0DHG try once more to get you to get out and operate Field Day next weekend… We talk points, incentives, a “meetup” opportunity and how to have FUN!
This month, the Amateur Radio Experimenters Group (AREG) have as their guest speakers Phil Lock and Bill Cowley, talking about amateur radio astronomy.
Cheaper electronics has created great possibilities for Amateur Radio Astronomy. This talk will describe a local project to receive and map the distribution of 1420 MHz signals from neutral hydrogen in our galaxy. We briefly describe the history of 21cm RA and why it’s still of great interest to astronomers. We outline some challenges over the last few years in assembling a 2m dish with custom feed, electronics and signal processing, then show recent results from our project.
The image in the thumbnail shows recent signals (May 17th) recorded over a 24 hour period for dish elevation of 53 degrees. The signal changes as the antenna points to different parts of the Milky Way.
