I came across this video from W2NDG which shows the UV-K5 and a firmware mod running single sideband (SSB) on 17 meters. Check it out, pretty cool!

Repeaters on this band get insane distance (worldwide) coverage. I’m documenting my build of my 10 meter repeater VK7RHF on 29.680 MHz.
The input is 29.580 MHz and uses a tone of 91.5 Hz.

In this video I show how I reworked the SWR sensing to be a little less sensitive. Remember make sure to do your own findings and if you decide to do this mod do at your own risk. Make sure to check your antenna’s SWR before using this amp! I purchased my amp from Ebay and a U.S. seller.
****NOTE, I ended up changing the 33 ohm resistor to a 22 ohm resistor to keep the swr closer to actual swr as per my analyzer about .2-3 lower. *****
