Grand Canyon National Park. Getting to the bottom – OPTIONAL. Getting to the top MANDATORY! Sandy and I received our backcountry permit for 3 days in the Grand Canyon at Hermit Creek Campground. This was an 8.5 mile hike down, with an additional 1.5 miles to the Colorado river. Over 4300’ of elevation difference from start to finish, this was a fun but challenging adventure. Since I was in the Canyon, I was curious if I could make any contacts for Parks on the Air from the bottom. So, I took along my MTR3b and everything that goes with it. Is it impossible to make contacts this far down into a canyon? Find out what my experience was.

Answering one of the most common questions I receive from new ham radio operators searching for their first HF rig! Join me as we discuss the pros/cons of these different power levels. Thanks for tuning into Signal Search.
Nick, KC3PWJ, has a flagpole and also a pole that holds up his VHF/UHF discone. He’d like to string a 20m dipole between the two poles, but is worried about it interfering with the discone. We talk it over and look at options.
