Electrical safety is paramount when your an experimenting radio amateur operator. What is electrocution? How does it differ from an electric shock? How does this all affect the heart? What else do you need to be aware of?

Dr Kevin Johnston VK4UH discusses Electrical Safety – from a Medical not an engineering perspective!

Dr Kevin is a Specialist Anaesthetist from Brisbane, he trained in the UK, he has held several academic university positions teaching both undergrad and post grad medical trainees. He has had a lifelong passion for Radio and Electronics and has held an amateur radio licence for over 50 years with interests in long-distance Microwave Propagation and Meteor Scatter and is the current president of the Brisbane VHF Group.

WIA Response to ACMA Class Licensing for VK Amateur Radio

The Wireless Institute of Australia’s (WIA) Spectrum Strategy Committee has released a Exposure Draft and Poll questions for the ACMA Class Licence proposal.

Members of the committee will be live to discuss the ACMA’s consultation paper, the WIA’s response and how you can have your say on the proposal by ACMA.

.Build this cheap rotatable dipole. Great for Field Day and portable use!

In this video I show how to make a Inverted U rotatable dipole antenna that is multibanded. This is an antenna design from W4RNL L.B Cebik (SK). Cebik designed this antenna for use on Field Day and other portable operations. I will make a version that uses 1/2" EMT conduit to keep the cost down. Two 10′ lengths of the conduit cost me 14.50 at a box store, so not bad for a good performing antenna! Now this antenna can be made more light weight and portable using 3 sizes of Aluminum tubing and over all length can be abdout 3′. Check the ARRL antenna handbook page 21.17-18.
