Pete Scola WA7JTM has been chasing DX on the allusive 6 meter "magic band" for close to 55 years. He has earned numerous awards and is well known in serious 6 meter circles. He doesn’t view himself as an expert on 6 meters but you will be hard pressed to find anybody who knows more then he does on the subject.
Pete joins us on this episode of the All Portable Discussion Zone to explain what a person needs to do to make 6 meter SSB and CW contacts.
Join us we talk about how YOU can get 6 meter contacts in this episode of the All Portable Discussion Zone “AP/DZ”. Every aspect of Portable Ops is explored in this biweekly live stream as we discuss news, gear, achievements, the workbench, contests, awards and more – find all Portable Ops related topics here.

Ashort video showing my lack of prowess at landings. One serious problem I have is getting instructor time. I need to fly a couple times a week, not every other week. The problem I’m currently having which is most vexing is the flare and touchdown–doing it consistently and with the right touch.

As those of you who have followed me through the years, you know we made the big move and are relocating to Connecticut. In case you didn’t realize, there are some serious differences between Mississippi and Connecticut. Enjoy a brief snapshot of some of these ‘firsts’ as we get settled in our new home. One of the biggies, Jherica operates W1AW at ARRL HQ!
I’ve gotta say, I was impressed with the Icom IC-705 and the ARRL EFHW. Running QRP we had a great time.

I am joined by Ed (N2XDD) and Steve (KC1AWV) to go over M17 Open Source Digital Codec. M17 is developing a new digital radio protocol for data and voice, made by and for amateur radio operators. M17 is about unlocking the capabilities that amateur radio hardware should already have.

County Comm sent me a GP-7 to take a look at. It is the upgrade to the GP-5, a radio I own, so I was able to compare the two. I find the GP-7 includes all the features I wanted to see the GP-5 and is also more selected when compared against each other.
County Comm GP-7 is here: https://countycomm.com/collections/radio/products/countycomm-gp-5-ssb-general-purpose-radio
(Note to viewers, this radio was sent to me by CountyComm as I owner and purchased the GP-5 and reviewed it. I believe I remained objective and compare both radios fairly)
